Week 1 of Being a Teacher

I am officially a teacher. Wow, just writing it makes me smile. In just these first three days I know I am living out my life’s purpose. It wasn’t completely smooth sailing every minute of each day, but it is an amazing thing to know that I am impacting eighteen little lives. As most of you know, my first day started out great until I was completely overwhelmed by the buses. However, the following day after some prayers and creating my giant erasable board, dismissal went much smoother.

There have been so many great little moments. Greeting their smiling faces at the door, having them tell me that I am their favorite teacher ever, reading encouraging notes from the parents, and seeing the kindness of my principal. There have been some crazy moments, such as P knocking about 50 books off my perfectly organized bookshelf, repeatedly having to warn the children not to throw the paper towels in the toilets because they flooded the first day of school, or having H trick me into getting ice because he was hot. But then they melt my heart, like when J decorated a wooden doll for me, or M made me an “I love you” picture. They are the cutest, sweetest, brightest eighteen 7 year olds that I have ever encountered. And yes I am probably a little prejudice because I am their teacher. Yes, that’s right, I am their teacher…

Good to hear that things are going well. Keep me updated and remember the wise words of Jesse McCartney..."Don't stress, don't stress"
